Azalea Rd. Incident

On Saturday, 11/21/2015, at approximately 10:30pm, Norton Police responded to a residence on Azalea Road in Norton for a report of a disturbance.  A 911 caller reported to police that a male subject inside of the residence was attempting to gain access to a safe that contained a handgun and that he was the only person inside of the residence.  As Norton officers approached the residence, they were fired upon through a first floor window.  Officers immediately returned fire.  During this encounter, no officers entered the residence and no one exited the residence.  Police secured the scene at that time and awaited the SWAT unit from the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council.  With assistance from a robot from the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, police were able to gain entry into the residence and confirm that the male inside the residence was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

No officers were injured during the incident.  Agencies assisting Norton Police include the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council, Massachusetts State Police, Mansfield Police, Attleboro Police, Taunton Police and Raynham Police and the Norton Fire Department.  The incident remains under investigation by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and Norton Police Detectives.  All further updates will come from the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
