Stolen M/V pursuit and arrest

On Saturday, 6/11/2016, at approximately 10:30pm, Norton Patrolman Scott Sweeting attempted to stop a vehicle traveling westbound on East Main Street due to the vehicle being operated with the headlights turned off.  The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Marissa Downey, age 29, of South Boston, continued to travel on East Main Street without stopping.  The vehicle turned onto Route 495 Southbound and continued, increasing the speed to over 100mph while swerving throughout the lanes on the highway.  The vehicle then exited the highway onto the Bay Street, Taunton exit, struck a light pole, and continued on Bay Street in Taunton.  The vehicle then turned onto Field Street in Taunton where Downy jumped from the vehicle while the vehicle was traveling approximately 30mph.  Downey fled from the scene into a wooded area on Field Street.  Norton, Raynham and Taunton police officers, along with a Mass State Police K9, searched the area, but Downey was unable to be located.  It was later discovered that the vehicle Downey was operating, a silver Toyota Yaris, was reported stolen from Lincoln, Rhode Island.  The next morning, Sunday, 6/12/16, at 6:30am, Downey was spotted on Field Street exiting a wooded area and was placed into custody by Taunton and Raynham Police.  Downey was transported to the Norton police station and then to Sturdy Hospital for minor, non-life threatening injuries.

Downey is being charged by Norton Police with receiving stolen property over $250, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, marked lanes violation and motor vehicle lights violation.
