East Main St. crash

On 4/30/2019, at 8pm, Norton Police and Fire Departments responded to a motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles on East Main Street in front of the Norton police station.  Norton Police Sergeant Robert Whitfield, who was performing a traffic detail nearby, was the first responder on scene and immediately tended to the passengers involved in the crash.  Within minutes, other officers, along with the Norton Fire Department, responded to the scene as well.

A Dodge SUV operated by a 32 year old Taunton woman was traveling east on East Main Street while the other vehicle, a Hyundai sedan operated by a 40 year old Norton woman, was traveling west on East Main Street.  The eastbound vehicle attempted to take a left turn into the police station driveway and struck the westbound vehicle.  A total of seven passengers were involved and were all transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital.  The two adult operators were treated for minor injuries while five children under the age of 12, who were all in the SUV, were transported as a precaution.

The operator of the SUV was cited in the crash for a marked lanes violation.  Ambulances from Mansfield and Easton assisted the Norton Fire Department with transportation to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. The crash is under investigation by Ptlm. Jarrad Morse.
