Trees

The Tree Department is part of the Highway Department and is responsible for the maintenance of trees on public grounds and within the public right of way. The Tree Department also provides public safety through the removal of diseased and dangerous trees and limbs along any public way or grounds.

It is the responsibility of the Tree Warden for the care and control of all public shade trees, shrubs, and growth in the Town of Norton.

The Town of Norton Highway Department does not spray for insects and/or poison ivy.

Below is a list of Massachusetts General Laws that residents should be aware of:

  • No person shall cut down a public shade tree without the written permission of the Tree Warden.
  • No person shall affix a sign to a public shade tree without the written permission of the Tree Warden.
  • No person shall plant a shade tree or shrub within the Town of Norton boundaries without the written permission of the Tree Warden.
