Norton Emergency Shelters

The primary Shelter is the Norton Middle School located at 215 West Main Street, Norton.

  • This Shelter will only be opened for Localized events that require evacuation of neighborhoods such as floods.
  • We will, during Power Outage Events, open Cooling or Warming Centers. These Centers will be mainly for People who have lost their Power, to come and warm up or cool down, depending on season. They will also provide a place to charge your cellphones, Medical Equipment and other Electronics. Beverages and snacks may also be available.

NEMA has developed and tested a comprehensive Mass Care and Sheltering Plan which has been accepted by the Board of Selectmen. It was tested in a live drill at the Middle School by a consortium of EMA's Medical ReserveCorps and Red Cross personnel.

Norton also belongs to the Greater Attleboro  Regional Emergency Planning Committee and as such there may be a regional shelter opened in an adjoining town prior to Norton opening a shelter. If required NEMA will provide transportation to the Regional Shelter. The Regional Shelter will either be the Attleboro High School or LaSallette Shrine depending on availability.

Residents are reminded to bring pillows, blankets, toiletries, prescriptions and any other comfort items. Shelter supplies are limited.
