DFW Hunting Rules              DFW Licensing & Rules

Conservation Lands in the Town of Norton are owned by multiple entities. Therefore it is important to contact the landowners or representatives prior to engaging in any hunting activities to ensure they allow for hunting on the premises.

Massachusetts General Law Chapter 21, Section 17C protects landowners from liability for “personal injuries or property damage” when they permit the public to use their land for “recreational, conservation, scientific, educational, environmental, ecological, research, religious, or charitable purposes without imposing a charge or fee…” Landowners are protected by this statute unless they charge a fee for access to their land.

Hunting is also allowed on DFW Managed Property in the Town of Norton. A map of the area is found here:  DFW Wildlife Land (Shaded Green)

The Town of Norton allows for hunting as POSTED on Municipal Conservation Land. No Hunting is permitted within the limits of any State Hunting Setbacks.  The State Hunting Setbacks are areas where hunting is prohibited; upon or within 150 feet of a state or hard surfaced highway or within 500 feet of a dwelling in use, except as permitted by the owner or occupant of the dwelling. (M. G. L. Ch. 131, Sec. 58).

A courtesy notification with the Conservation Office is appreciated to ensure recreational safety prior to any intended hunting activity on Municipal Land.

State Hunting Setback Map  - Hunting is prohibited within the Orange Hatched Areas.

Local Hunting Setback Map - Hunting is prohibited within the Gray Hatched Areas, and at EDITH READ & Johnson Acres.

Hunting hours are from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset on each day of open season, or as listed within the Annual DFW Hunting Season Summary.
