Town of Norton to Open Cooling Center During Anticipated Heat
The Town of Norton will open the Nelson Senior and Community Center as a cooling center on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday due to the anticipated heat.
The cooling center will be available during the following hours:
Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Nelson Senior and Community Center is located at 120 Mansfield Avenue, Norton, MA 02766.
Residents who need a cool place to go during the day are welcome to use the facility during these hours. The Town is coordinating staffing and support through the Council on Aging/Human Services Department, Norton Fire Department, Norton Police Department, Emergency Management, and NEMA volunteers.
Residents are encouraged to take precautions during periods of high heat, including staying hydrated, limiting strenuous outdoor activity when possible, checking on elderly neighbors and relatives, and seeking air-conditioned spaces as needed.
