Norton Veterans Work-Off Program

The Veterans Work-Off  Program offers qualifying veterans volunteer/working opportunities in exchange for a property tax abatement up to $1,500.

To qualify for the program you must be:

  • A veteran who served a minimum of 90 days on active duty (other than for training) with a DD214 that shows an Honorable Discharge or
  • The spouse of a veteran that meets the above qualifications or
  • If the veteran is deceased, the unmarried spouse of veteran that meets the qualifications above or
  • A volunteer who agrees to work for one of the above individuals

In addition, the veteran (or spouse of a veteran) must be an assessed owner of the properly as of January 1 of the assessment year, or if the property is subject to a trust, the veteran must have legal title (i.e. be one of the trustees) to the property on which the tax to be abated is assessed. 

To receive the maximum abatement, veterans must work 100 hours based on minimum rate of $15.00. Veterans who work less than 100 hours will receive a prorated amount.

Work can be completed anytime between January 1, 2023 and October 6, 2023.

The Assessor's Office is accepting applications now through December 31, 2022.
