CAMPBELL HOUSE
217 West Main Street
The Norton Historical Commission is proud to have custodianship of a “hidden gem” in Norton, the Campbell House. It is top priority of the NHC to showcase this 17th century structure. The NHC will begin initiatives in 2009 to improve the building.
The Campbell House is a two-story timber framed saltbox structure. The construction of the Campbell House began with the erection of the support-frame sometime around November 1697, as stated in a deed between Jabez Pratt to Sylvanus Campbell. The house was less than one mile from the Chartley Iron Works.
Sylvanus Campbell, the younger of two Brothers whose father migrated from Scotland, purchased the partially completed dwelling from his brother Ebenzer, and presumably decided to settle in this neighborhood and work at the forge.
