Norton Police to Combat Underage Drinking

$5000.00 grant from Executive Office of Public Safety and Security

The funds will support compliance checks for minors in bars, restaurants and retail locations; “Cops in Shops” programs as well as “Party Patrols”.  Through a combination of these techniques, departments analyze and crack down on minors who seek to circumvent the law and people and businesses that enable them.

The Norton Police Department intends to conduct compliance checks of establishments as part of the Underage Alcohol Enforcement Grant program

An  Establishment must reasonably rely on one of the following types of identification:

1. A Massachusetts Driver’s License;

2. A Massachusetts Liquor Identification Card;

3. A Massachusetts Identification Card;

4. A Passport Issued by the United States or a government that is officially recognized by the

United States;

5. A Passport Card for a Passport issued by the United States; and

6. A Military Identification Card.

The identification must be checked on the day of service, even if the licensee has checked an individual’s identification on previous occasions.

This is one of several enforcement activities that the police department will utilize to prevent serious and potentially tragic events from occurring.
