Man fires weapon at Officers

No one injured. Man taken into custody

On 11/17/2016, at approximately 9:30pm, Norton Police responded to an incident on John Scott Boulevard where a male was involved in an argument with a woman in the home.  The woman reported to police that the male, identified as Heath Mullett, age 42, was in possession of a handgun.  Officers attempted to speak with Mullett as the woman fled the home with a young child, but he remained irrational and barricaded himself in the home with the weapon.  The Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (Metro-LEC) SWAT team was requested and responded to the scene, along with officers from Attleboro, Taunton, Rehoboth and Massachusetts State Police to assist.  Negotiators from Metro-LEC assisted as well, speaking with the male during the incident.  At one point, Mullett told the Norton dispatcher that he had over 500 rounds of ammunition.  As officers staged in the area, several rounds of ammunition were fired from inside the home at officers outside, with one round striking a police vehicle, but officers did not return fire.  After negotiators and officers spoke with the Mullett, he surrendered and exited the residence with the assistance of the SWAT team.  Mullett was placed under arrest and was transported to Sturdy Hospital for evaluation.  The Norton Fire Department assisted as well.  No one was injured in the incident.

Mullett was charged by Norton Police with domestic assault and battery, malicious damage over $250 (police vehicle), discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and assault with intent to murder (firing at officers).

At approximately 4am this morning, Norton Police Detectives obtained and executed a search warrant of Heath Mullett’s residence at 106 John Scott Boulevard in Norton.  Several firearms were recovered, ammunition and three military style knives.  Three new charges have been added, which include reckless endangerment of a minor, possessing a firearm while intoxicated and possession of a large capacity feeding device.  Mullett is currently at the Attleboro District Court awaiting arraignment.
