Snow & Ice -Frequently Asked Questions

Who should I call if my mailbox is knocked over by snow?
The Town of Norton does not replace mailboxes that are taken down by the snow.  Before a storm please make sure your mailbox and posts are tight and secure, because of the force of the snow being thrown by the plows mailboxes do often become detached from the poles.

My street has not yet been plowed, who do I call?
If it is not an emergency, please be patient.  Your street will be plowed as quickly as possible.  Available plows must first clear all main roads before they begin the residential streets.  If there is an emergency situation call the Highway Department at 508-285-0237, if there is a medical emergency call 911.

I have a fire hydrant in front of my house, whose responsibility is it to shovel the snow from it?
Any fire hydrant that is located in front of a dwelling or business, is the responsibility of the property owner to keep clear.  The Highway Department does not shovel hydrants out.

Is there any sand available to residents to get for their property?
Yes, sand and salt is usually availabe in front of the salt shed at 55 Rear West Main Street (near CVS, behind Senior Center).  Please limit to one bucket only.  (Remember to bring a shovel and bucket).
