On 7/8/09, for approximately one hour between 4:49pm and 6:00pm, The Norton Police and Fire Departments responded to several incidents due to heavy hail and heavy rain, causing flooding. The storm was concentrated mostly on the west side of town from the center to the Attleboro town line. The storm caused several trees and branches to fall.
The Norton Communications Department received reports of trees down on Oak St, North Worcester Street, Walker Street, and Barrows Street. Trees were reported to have fallen on cars in two driveways on Oak Street. The Departments responded to 122 North Worcester Street for a report of a tree fallen on a vehicle and a vacant home under construction. Trees were reported to have fallen on power lines on Walker Street and Barrows Street. Streets were littered with several branches and leaves.
Railroad signals were disrupted at the intersection of John Scott Blvd. and South Worcester St, causing heavy traffic delays. CSX was notified and resolved the problem.
National Grid was notified for trees on wires on Walker Street. The Norton Highway Department assisted in the clearing of trees and limbs from the roadways.
During this time, the Departments received several fire alarms and a burglar alarm due to the storm.
No storm related injuries or power outages were reported.
