NORTON POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL CRASH ON RT. 123
On January 31, 2010, at approximately 7:06 A.M., Norton Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of 159 West Main Street, (Rt. 123) for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, officers found a single motor vehicle involved in the crash. The vehicle had struck a utility pole. The pole was sheared off at the base. The operator of the vehicle was found to be the only occupant. The victim, who identity is being withheld pending family notifications, had suffered serious trauma from the crash and was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital by Norton-Fire Rescue. The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation by Sgt. Robert Whitfield, Detective Stephen Desfosses and Detective Todd Bramwell of the Norton Police Department. Massachusetts State Police responded to assist Norton Police with the crash reconstruction.
West Main Street (Rt. 123) was closed for a short time due to the crash. Utility companies remained on scene to repair the pole.
