The annual licensing period runs from January 1st to December 31st, both dates inclusive.
Licensing Fees
The annual fees for licensing your dogs are as follows:
Spayed or neutered $10.00
Not Spayed or Neutered $15.00
Fees are NOT pro-rated and the licensing dates do not change based on date license was purchased.
Owners with four dogs or more must apply for a kennel license.
Late Fees
Applications for a license renewal received after March 1st will be issued a $5.00 late fee along with the license fee and an additional fee of $1.00 per month for each subsequent month. Licenses not renewed by June 30th will also be subject to a $25.00 citation issued by the Animal Control Officer.
If you no longer own a dog you must notify the Town Clerk’s Office to avoid future notices and late fees. Call 508-285-0230 or email townclerksoffice@nortonmaus.com with the owners name and address, dogs name and breed and indicate that you no longer own this dog.
For the convenience of our dog owners, dog licensing and payments may be done online beginning with the 2012 Licenses.
In order to take advantage of the online licensing & payment option, a current rabies certificate must be on file at the Town Clerk’s Office. If the rabies certificate is not on file or expired and you would like to utilize the online processing feature, you may fax a copy of your rabies certificate to 508-285-0297 or e-mail a copy to townclerksoffice@nortonmaus.com. Please allow at least one week for us to process the certificate and update the database before going back online to process.
Online payment options are ACH from checking account, MasterCard and Discover. The bank charges a convenience fee for utilizing a credit card but there is no additional fee for paying using a check online. For each license issued, you will be charged $0.50 postage fee and your tag and license will be mailed directly to you. For licenses processed during December, January and February, please allows several weeks for receipt of license and tags.
Tips for Online Search Look Up Feature
The Search look up feature online requires input fields to match exactly as they appear in our data base. You can choose to search utilizing your last name, street name and dog name or simply by the animal key. The animal key is a unique # given to your dog. If you are having difficulty finding your information and you are certain that a current rabies certificate is on file at the Town Clerks Office you could use your last years license to verify the look up information that is on file or call the Town Clerks Office for the Animal Key. The animal key on your license is only the # listed after Species Dog ID#.
STREET NAME IS ASKING FOR ONLY THE STREET NAME, NOT THE STREET # OR THE STREET DIRECTORY TYPE (West, North, etc), OR THE STREET TYPE (St., Dr., etc) .
Example: I live at 70 West Main Street. Input street name as MAIN.
Once you have successfully completed the search for your dog :
Please verify that this is the correct Dog and Owner. Should you need to make a change to to one of the fields, other than email (which you can change directly in the field),please use the Comment Section. If the Amount is not Correct DO NOT PROCESS ONLINE -- No Refunds will be issued.
CALL 508-285-0230
PLEASE NOTE THAT FEES DO NOT INCLUDE ANY PAST DUE BALANCES OR CITATIONS YOU MAY HAVE RECEIVED—THESE CAN NOT BE PAID ONLINE.
